David L. Boren Scholarship
Description: Undergraduate students who intend upon studying abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East are encouraged to apply for the David L. Boren Scholarship.
An important element of the Boren program is the study of languages critical to U.S. national security, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Students are encouraged to visit the David L. Boren Scholarship wepage for details on eligible countries, languages, and preferred areas of study.
This program is funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP) and applicants must make a compelling case as to how their program contributes to U.S. national security interests.
Note: The countries in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.
Amount: Up to $20,000
To Apply: Make an appointment with the on-campus Boren representatives, Mary Beth Falkner (Education Abroad- 206-296-2226) or Luke Green (Office of the Fellowships- 206-296-2517). Students can also complete an interest form online through the Horizons system.
