At the start of the quarterly advising period, the Office of the Registrar will notify you via SU email that you may check your registration access time and registration restrictions on SU Online. Your registration access continues until the last day to add/drop classes.
Your registration restrictions are "holds" that prevent you from registering until you have resolved the obligation associated with the restriction.
Avoid delays in registering! - Do a follow-up check to be sure all restrictions have been lifted once you have taken care of your obligations.
Use the SU Academic Calendar to find quarterly advising and resgistration dates, and put them on your personal calendar.
Who is my advisor? To identify your advisor, log on to SU Online; on the student menu under the category Academic Profile" select "My Profile". Your advisor's email, phone number, and location can be found in the Faculty/Staff Directory.
Give your Student Profile form to your advisor. Your student Profile Form is included in your Advising/Educational Planning Portfolio. You can also find the freshman profile form here, the Premajor profile form here, the business major's profile form here, and the transfer students profile form here. Complete your profile form and drop it off for your advisor when you sign up for your appointment.
Complete your Educational Planning Worksheet. Review the 3-step educational planning pages. This broader view of the planning process can help to generate important questions. Use the following resources to complete the worksheet and plan to share and discuss this information with your Advisor.
Review the Undergraduate Catalog of Information. The catalog outlines degree requirements, lists course requirements by department, and provides course descriptions. Reference the catalog associated with the year you entered Seattle University.
Review a typical Program of Study for your Major. This information can be found on the webpage for your major, as well as a schedule of 2 or 4 year projected course offerings.
Review your Program Evaluation. A Program Evaluation on SU Online is a computer-generated, unofficial report which matches the courses that you have taken with the requirements of your major so you and your advisor can see what coursework your have satisfied and what courses you need to complete your degree. If your have concerns about the accuracy of your Program Evaluation, you can see your Academic Specialist in the Office of the Registrar. You can also select a "What if" Program Evaluation to explore your requirements to complete other majors.

SU Students register for courses viaSU Online. Additional functions include class search, accessing your grades, tracking your academic progress on your program evaluation, and reviewing your advisor's notes from your appointments. View the "how-to" videos on the SU Online Student Menu (or use the links listed here in the right-hand column).
The "Search for Sections" function Explore the courses offered during the upcoming quarters, including when they are offered, who is teaching them if they are Core classes, and if there are prerequisites (requirements that must be met before you can take a specific class).
The "Preferred Sections" function Prior to your registration time, the preferred section list allows you to record your preferred class schedule online. Then, you can register for courses directly from your preferred schedule when your registration time arrives. You are not automatically registered for classes on you preferred section list, nor are your guaranteed a seat in classes saved to your list!
Register for classes during your registration access time. After registering, check SU Online occasionally for any changes in your class times or locations. Taking action ahead of time will allow you to correct any registration errors that could impact billing and final grading, and will ensure that you show up in the right classroom.
What to do if a class is closed! Go to the Core Solution Center for concerns about getting into closed core classes. For Core Interdisciplinary, Senior Syntheses or Major classes, see the department offering the class. Business and economics majors, visit the advising office in the Albers School located in Pigott 318.
How and when to make schedule changes If you need to make changes to your schedule, work directly with your advisor and then add and drop courses online through the end of the add/drop period which extends until the end of the 5th day of classes. Specific add/drop dates are posted in the academic calendar of important dates. Notify your advisor of any changes you make to your class schedule.
Full-time and Part-time Status The typical quarterly credit load is 15 for undergraduates. If your credit load for the quarter varies from this, review the Credit Hour Load Policy and the Full-time/Part-time Status Policy to be sure you meet the guidelines.
Withdrawing after the add/drop period The add/drop period is the time during which you may add and drop courses without changes being noted on your transcript. Once the add/drop deadline (check the date on your academic calendar) has past, you will need to follow withdrawal procedures to withdraw from a class. Review the university Withdrawal Policy for an explanation of all withdrawal options.
Course Restrictions Courses numbered 100 to 299 are "lower division" courses and those numbered 300 to 499 are "upper division." Freshmen are typically limited to lower division courses with the following exceptions: advanced placement test scores for an equivalent course subject satisfies the freshman level SU course requirement; credit-by-exam results satisfy a freshman level course requirement; accepted transfer credit for a course satisfies the freshman level requirement or prerequisite; math or foreign language placement exam results qualify the student for advanced level coursework; the student has obtained permission from the head of the department offering the course.
