Last year, according to CorporateRegister.com, more than 5,500 companies around the world issued sustainability reports, up from about 800 a decade ago. Given the importance of maintaining a socially responsible company it follows that a company should provide assurance that their sustainability claims are accurate. Internal auditors are professionally qualified to assess risk and evaluate controls around business processes. As such, they are well suited to provide assurance regarding sustainability organizations to prevent reputational risk. The can verify the key performance indicators and data within CSR reports.
