Finance Major

  • In order to earn the bachelor of arts in business administration degree with a major in finance, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits with a cumulative and major/program grade point average of 2.25, including the following:

    EXCEL Requirement

    All business students entering SU summer 2012 or later are required to pass the EXCEL Level I Certification Exam as follows:

    • Freshman students need to be certified by the time they have reached 45 credits.
    • Transfer students need to be certified by the end of their first quarter in Albers.

    III. Major Requirements

    25 credits, including:

    FINC 3420 Intermediate Corporate Finance 5
    FINC 3430 Financial Institutions and Markets 5
    FINC 3440 Investments 5
    FINC Electives 10
    Choose from upper-division finance courses  

    Note: Students are advised to take the two finance major electives from FINC 4410, 4450, 4460, or 4480 if they plan to pursue a career in corporate finance; or from FINC 4450, 446, 4510, or 4520 if they plan to pursue a career in investments. Internships and independent studies may not satisfy a major requirement.

    IV. Additional Requirements

    General Electives to total 180 credit hours. 20

    Additional economic and accounting courses recommended.

    * Major requirements must earn a C- grade or better.
