Red Winged leaders possess a strong combination of three key traits: leadership, business acumen, and social responsibility. Red Winged leaders enhance the lives of others through their leadership abilities and drive success in their organization through strong business acumen. Moreover, based on a heightened sense of social responsibility, Red Winged leaders apply their leadership and business acumen to make a positive impact on the community. Such Red Winged Leaders are selflessly motivated to utilize these three strengths to accomplish great things for reasons beyond themselves.
Sometimes the best leaders are the hardest to identify, but like the red-winged blackbird with red markings on its wings, the markings of these types of leaders are often unique. Yet, once you know what to look for, it is hard to miss.
The GLFS is a program for a select group of Albers MBA students to explore leadership issues, develop and hone leadership skills, and practice leadership behaviors in a carefully designed learning environment.
The program includes a year-long leadership formation course wherein students are challenged with the goal of finding and recognizing local leaders that make a significant impact on people, organizations, and the greater community, through the display of leadership, business acumen, and a heightened sense of social responsibility. From this challenge, the Red Winged Leadership brand and tradition were born, entirely from student ideas and initiative. The GLFS cohort hopes to bring awareness to Albers students and faculty, Seattle University, and the greater Seattle community regarding the difference that Red Winged Leadership can make.
