Caitlin Ring joins the Communication Department, effective September
1, 2013. Ring is currently teaching in the Department of Journalism and Mass
Communications at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her areas of
expertise include media law, contemporary media analysis, freedom of the press,
privacy, and broadcast regulation.
Ring’s recent scholarship focuses on a
range of current topics. Her latest article “Curbing Deception: Why the FCC
Should Establish Formal News Distortion Regulations for Broadcast Programming”
appears in Communication
Law Review (2012). In the last year, Ring presented “www.hate.com: A
Neo-Nazi Discussion Forum as a Commonplace for Material, Spiritual and Cultural
(Re)Production,” “Bleeping Bleep: Identifying Variations on the Two-word
Phenomenon of Racial Insults,” and “Watching Your Way to Weight Loss: The
Impact of “Biggest Loser” Viewership on Perceived Self-Efficacy.”
The College of Arts and Sciences, the
largest college in Seattle University, offers 42 undergraduate
majors, 37 minors, and 7 master’s degrees.
