Professor Galen Trail ,
Coordinator of the Master in Sport Administration and Leadership program, is a
featured presenter at the annual Sport Marketing Association conference,
scheduled for October 26-29 in New Orleans. Trail, a prolific scholar,
will present on 1) the impact of a new college football program on spectator
consumption behavior and identification with the university; 2) the
socialization of people into being fans of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White
Sox; 3) the impact of motivators and constraints on attendance and revenue
generation for college basketball teams, and 4) the effect of winning on
licensed merchandise purchasing.
Trail received his Ph.D.
from Ohio State and has been a consultant for professional teams, including the
Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Storm, and Baltimore
Orioles, as well as for many NCAA Division I athletic departments. He recently
published “Constraints and motivators: A new model to explain consumer
behavior” in the Journal of Sport Management (with Y.K. Kim); “The
effects of service provider gender and rater gender on perceptions of service
quality” in the International Journal of Sport Management (with M. Kim);
and “LBNP tolerance analyzed retrospectively using a structural equation model”
in Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine (with J.P. Wallace and
W.D. Franke). Trail joined the Seattle University Arts and Sciences faculty in
