Strategic Communications is a professionally oriented major that converges public relations with reputation management and brand communications. Students develop practical skills through case studies, simulations, internships and real-world consulting projects. Special emphasis is placed on preparing students to lead projects for social change in their communities. The major is complemented by the Center for Strategic Communications, which oversees a student-run consultancy committed to helping values-driven organizations. Members of the student agency engage and service real world clients to achieve specific communication goals. Students can help fight family homelessness and participate in other advocacy projects supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and more.
The center functions as a laboratory for strategic communications and other majors to practice their craft in service to nonprofit community organizations. Through our projects, the Center has developed a reputation as a trusted partner to many service providers and other stakeholders in the community. Our projects empower the university and larger community to work together on social justice issues. Graduates from this major go on to careers in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Recent graduates work for leading PR agencies and in organizations ranging from Microsoft and Amazon.com to Habitat for Humanity.
The center is part of the Seattle University Communication Department.
