  • Becoming Catholic: Adult Baptism and Confirmation

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.)

Are you exploring the possibility of becoming a Catholic? The process for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) begins in the fall.  The process culminates with Baptism or Profession of Faith at the Easter Vigil. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a year-long process of exploration, prayer, reflection and study that leads to full Christian initiation at the Easter Vigil in the Roman Catholic community.

    Weddings & Marriage Preparation

Weddings for current Seattle University students, faculty and staff can be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Ignatius, or Campion Chapel under certain circumstances.

Weddings must be scheduled at least 6 months in advance of the wedding. Weddings are celebrated on Saturdays at 12pm and 5pm except during university closures, the advent/lent liturgical seasons and the week before and after changes in the liturgical seasons.  Please contact Campus Ministry for more info about guidelines and scheduling.

Please allow three business days for a response.

For important guidelines on weddings at the Chapel of St. Ignatius, please read the Wedding Document Checklist, Wedding Guidelines, Wedding Finance Agreement, and Chapel Policy

To prepare for your wedding liturgy, please consider reading Chapters 1 and 2 of Planning Your Wedding in the Catholic Tradition: A Resource Manual for Couples and Presiders - Rev. John D. Whitney, S.J.  The wedding liturgy offers a lifetime of inspiration and encouragement for spouses.  We encourage couples to treat the wedding ceremony (whether that be a Mass or a Rite) as important to the reception and party after, therefore we encourage the use of music, of communal responses, of silence, environment (flowers) and joy.

Campus Ministry offers Marriage Preparation This program, or its equivalent, is required for engaged couples to assess their readiness for marriage and to assist them in understanding that marriage is a vocation, a covenant and a sacrament.   Campus Ministry invites engaged couples to participate in marriage preparation, which we hope will offer ways to help engaged couples live out this vocation with hearts striving to be a couple with and for others.  While our Marriage Preparation program is specifically geared towards couples interested in being married in the Roman Catholic Church, couple being married in other faith traditions and contexts may also benefit from taking part in this process.  Whether you are getting married on-campus or somewhere else, Campus Ministry is here to be of service to you.  The program is tailored to fit the scheduling needs of the couple.  For more information, contact Katherine Buck, Campus Minister for Marriage Preparation.

    What is Marriage Preparation?

Marriage preparation is intentional time that a couple take to talk explicitly about their relationship’s gifts and challenges.

Led by a marriage preparation facilitator, couples participate in 4-6 sessions each 1 1/2 hours long. These

sessions involve conversations around family of origin, lifestyle expectations, friends and interests, personality,

communication styles, problem solving, spirituality and values, sexuality, finance and readiness.

    Why Marriage preparation?

Through Marriage Prep, couples become more of their strengths and potential struggles. Hopefully then they are

able, then to work on these potential struggles and make a fully informed lifelong commitment.
