A Dawg Day in Alumni relations

Posted on Tuesday, April 08, 2014

Thanks to Kaily Serralta of Alumni Relations, who sent in these photos and wrote: "The Alumni Relations team played their first annual April Fools' prank on the Assistant Vice President Susan Vosper, by becoming 'dawgs' for a day. We decorated her office, brought purple treats, and entire staff dressed in purple and gold. She was thoroughly surprised. Our colleagues at the University of Washington lent a hand by providing several decorations and giving Susan a one year UW alumni membership. It is real!"

SquirrelBannan_400UPDATE (April 8): As you'll recall, Gina Lopardo, director of Education Abroad, sent in this shot and wrote, "I took this picture of a squirrel packing its mouth with toilet paper when I was climbing the stairs between both Bannan buildings on 2/14." We asked for your captions, and here's what we got:

- Heidi Beck, instructor, Culture and Language Bridge Program

"Hindsight is 20/20. I knew I should have gotten that flu shot this year!!"
- Joyce Allen, registrar

- Amy Lane, gift and data integrity coordinator, University Advancement

"Do not even think of saying I have a potty mouth."
- Doug Duncan, associate university counsel

The real Monuments Men

Posted on Wednesday, March 26, 2014

You just can’t keep emeritus faculty member Bob Harmon from teaching. His informal but informative “Shop Talk” lectures are always well attended by Facilities staff and other colleagues from across the campus. Last month in the lead-up to the Oscars, Harmon delivered a timely lecture on his World War II experience and the real “Monuments Men.” Steve Szablya of Facilities captured the lecture on video, which you can watch here:

From a bygone SU era

UAAshtray_SnapshotInnerThis little artifact was unearthed during a recent cleaning expedition in the offices of University Advancement. These ash trays apparently were given as tokens of appreciation to donors back in the day. Thanks to Kristen Kirst, director of advancement communications and marketing, for passing this along to the The Commons.
