International Student Center
Health Insurance
  • Requirement

Medical care in the United States is extremely expensive. To ensure that you will be able to get the medical care you need, you will be required to purchase the health insurance offered at Seattle University your first quarter of enrollment, unless you provide proof of insurance under a comparable plan.

The insurance premium will be charged to your account at the beginning of the Fall term (or your first quarter during the regular academic year) when you register for classes. We have an annual premium, so if you enroll in the fall term you will be covered from September 1st through September 1st of the following year.

    Waivers

To receive a waiver of the insurance requirement, you must provide proof that you have other insurance with comparable coverage. There is a deadline for turning in insurance waiver requests each quarter. If you are leaving the country, or moving to a different school/university, you may also apply for a prorated refund of your premium. Please contact the ISC for further instructions on this matter.

Please find below the waiver links,

How to Use the Seattle University Insurance Plan

Insurance cards and brochures are available at the International Student Center. It is recommended that you carry your insurance card with you in case you unexpectedly need to visit a doctor. In a non-emergency situation, it is best to first seek medical treatment at the Student Health Center on campus - located in Bellarmine Hall 107.

In the case of a non-emergency, if you do not seek treatment from the Student Health Center, you may be responsible for the first $100 of the costs. If you have visited a doctor off-campus, and the bills are being sent to you, you can file a claim with the insurance company (see below). Please refer to Seattle University International Student Health Insurance Plan for more information.
