Seattle University President Fr. Stephen Sundborg, S.J. has officially announced the new athletic offices will be called the “Ed and John O’Brien Center for Athletic Administration.”  The brothers received the news last weekend, on their 80th birthday at an alumni luncheon and in a special halftime presentation at the SU vs. Idaho men’s basketball game.

“The O’Briens are a treasure to Seattle University, and it is fitting that we honor them in this way so that they will always be a part of the athletics program,” said Bill Hogan, athletic director. “Eddie and Johnny played a major role in our return to Division I with their personal involvement in several projects and we wanted to make sure we thanked them for their inspiration over the past 60 years.”

The brothers have remained strong supporters of SU athletics and sit sideline at nearly every home basketball game.

“What a birthday present,” said Ed O’Brien as he accepted the gift that could only be given by Seattle University.
