Seattle University women's basketball senior Elle Kerfoot was named to the Canadian Development National Team for the upcoming World University Games in Shenzhen, China. The International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer Universiade games will run from August 12-23, and next to the Olympic Games, it is the second largest multi-sport event in the world.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to represent my country,” said Kerfoot. “It is an honor and has been a dream of mine since I started playing basketball.”

Throughout her Seattle U career Kerfoot has made her mark on the program, including holding rank in several statistical categories in the all-time individual career and season record book. During the 2010-11 campaign, she was the Redhawk offensive leader throughout the season averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 assists per game. The point guard started and played in all 30 games and scored in double figures in 24 contests, including the final 14 consecutive games. Kerfoot was named to a pair of all-tournament teams on the season and was Seattle U’s team MVP.

“I am just so proud and happy for Elle,” said SU head coach Joan Bonvicini. “Her commitment and willingness not just to work hard, but to make basketball her passion makes this so rewarding for her. I think this will be a tremendous experience representing her country of Canada and it will bring such wonderful things for her experience as a collegiate student-athlete. It will definitely help our program this year.”

Canada will face Poland, Russia and South Africa in pool play at the 16-team tournament.
