The College of Nursing would like to congratulate graduate nursing student, Meghan Rehder (APNI ’15), for being selected as the 2014 recipient of the Dr. Eileen Ridgway Outreach Scholarship.
Megan’s service project will focus on establishing an ongoing collaboration with SeaMar Community Health Center’s Renacer inpatient drug treatment center for youth. She served as Arts Empowerment Coordinator and Health Educator at the center from 2011-2012.
Megan says that she “plans to develop a ‘recovery-focused’ visual arts and creative writing curriculum, as well as lead workshops twice a month with the patients of Renacer treatment facility.”
She also plans to partner with a local organization display the work of patients in a public art showing in the spring of 2014. One of her goals is to develop a sustainable art and empowerment program with the collective input of youth, Sea Mar CHC and community members.
Established in May 1996, the Dr. Eileen Ridgway Endowed Nursing Scholarship aims to kindle and fuel leadership development by encouraging student development in community outreach, service, and civic efforts. Dr. Eileen Ridgway served as the dean of the Seattle University College of Nursing from 1968-1977.
Megan is a graduate student in the Family Nurse Practitioner track at the College of Nursing. She plans to complete her Masters of Science in Nursing degree in 2015.
