Seattle University College of Nursing Regional Summit: Save the Date! The SU College of Nursing Regional Summit "Changes in Healthcare: Implications and Innovations for Nursing Education and Practice" will be held April 21, 2014 from 3- 7 p.m. in Campion Ballroom.
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
The College of Nursing, along with four other Washington nursing education programs, received an award from Johnson & Johnson to increase their capacity to educate and graduate more nurses. All of the recipient’s proposals shared a focus on increasing the diversity of the nursing student population.
The CON’s project award, “Increasing Cultural Competency and Student Retention,” will support a two-day workshop and expert consultation during the 2010-2011 academic year. The goal of the project is to increase faculty members’ knowledge and skills in managing an increasingly culturally rich student body, and to work more effectively with minority students to ensure their academic success and program completion. This will result in an increase in the numbers of students becoming RN’s. Other 2010 J&J “Promise of Nursing for Washington” Nursing Program Capacity Expansion grant recipients include, Tacoma Community College Nursing Program, Walla Walla University Nursing Program, and the University of Washington-Bothell Nursing Program. The awards were funded by the March 29, 2009 “Johnson and Johnson Promise of Nursing for Washington” gala, which raised $300,000 for nursing in Washington State. Since 2006, these events have been coordinated by the Washington Center for Nursing, and have raised >$800,000 in WA state for nursing education.
