McAfee Mac Anti-Virus

We have initiated a project to install McAfee anti-virus software onto Seattle University (SU) owned Mac computers. This effort will bring all SU computers into compliance with the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO’s) directive to safeguard the Seattle University network from unwanted virus and malware attacks.

To implement this directive, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will help install McAfee anti-virus software onto faculty and staff member computers that do not have McAfee installed. There will be three options to assist faculty and staff in these efforts, including (1) self-service website where users can install the software themselves, (2) a drop-in center for laptop users in Engineering 309 where an OIT assistant will install the software on the user’s behalf, and (3) remote desktop installation via appointment with OIT Desktop Support.  Information about the specific installation options for each type of computer are listed below.

For desktop (iMac) users:

Option 1: Self-service on the OIT website.
The user visits the OIT downloads page and under the heading “McAfeeMac Anti-Virus” follows the instructions to install the software themselves. Please note that the user must be either on campus or logged in via VPN and must have administrative permissions for their computer for this option to work.

Option 2: Make an appointment with OIT Desktop Support.
The user visits the appointment request page to fill out a request for an appointment. The request will be routed directly to OIT Desktop Support. An OIT Desktop Support technician will contact the user and make an appointment to install the software at their office on campus.

For laptop (MacBook and MacBook Pro) users:

Option 1: Self-service on the OIT website.
The user visits the OIT downloads page and under the heading “McAfeeMac Anti-Virus” follows the instructions to install the software themselves. Please note that the user must be either on campus or logged in via VPN and must have administrative permissions for their computer for this option to work.

Option 2: From 5/10/2012 to 6/08/12, the user can drop by Engineering 309 during business hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm. An OIT representative will be there to assist with the installation of the software. Wait time for installation is approximately 15 minutes. If a user is unable to drop in during those dates, they can use the appointment request page to fill out a request for an appointment. The request will be routed directly to OIT Desktop Support. An OIT Desktop Support technician will contact the user and make an appointment to install the software at their office on campus.
