We are extremely proud of Laura's accomplishments and are not surprised she has been honored with this very high honor, which is given to the graduating senior who enters Seattle University as a transfer student from another college or university and maintains the highest Seattle University grade point average throughout the undergraduate degree. For this honor to befall a Mechanical Engineering student, who not only maintained a 4.0 GPA given the rigor of our program, but also frequently took 18 to 21 credits per quarter while working as a department grader, is an impressively rare feat.Additionally, Laura's strong academic skills proved a solid foundation for success during her 6-months internship at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing in Indiana in 2012. Soon after arriving she wrote several VBA codes to significantly and noticeably improve some existing processes. Laura developed and simulated a new underbody weld shop machine specification for the 2014 Toyota Highlander production line. Obviously, that was a direct contribution to an actual and new manufacturing process at Toyota. Furthermore, she led and conducted meetings with vendors located in Japan, some of which spoke and understood English only through interpreters. It is of no surprise that Toyota recognized her talents and offered her a full-time engineering position at their research facility in Ann Arbor, MI. Laura will also pursue an MSME degree at University of Michigan and eventually a PhD. Laura is also an active member of SWE and an advocate for women in engineering. Laura, thank you for helping the engineering profession recruit and maintain female students and thank you for enriching the learning experience for your fellow colleagues at Seattle U, students and professors alike - we will never forget you!
