Mission

The Sullivan Leadership Program promotes the personal and professional growth of the Sullivan Scholars as agents of change for a more just and humane world.

Objective

The Sullivan Leadership Award represents Seattle University’s holistic definition of academic excellence, one that transcends classroom performance. The award is a full scholarship, equal to tuition, room and board for each of four years, designed to support students whose records reflect their commitment to:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Service and Leadership
  • Community
  • Spirituality
  • Global Engagement

Each year we seek to identify nine entering freshmen who will serve as peer leaders embodying these values.

Leadership takes many forms and styles.  Some leaders are charismatic and others lead by example. Among the many leadership styles are servant leadership, participative leadership, delegative leadership, transformational leadership and relations-oriented leadership. The Sullivan Leadership Award seeks students with diverse leadership styles and personal backgrounds.

Seattle University's student body is geographically, ethnically, culturally and economically diverse; accordingly, we search for a cohort that mirrors the diversity of Seattle University’s student body. Sullivan Leaders represent a variety of heritages—small towns and large cities, public and independent high schools, Catholic and other religious traditions.

The program’s objective is in keeping with Seattle University’s overall mission to cultivate leaders who will enter society and work in pursuit of a more just and humane world. To achieve this goal, it is critical that we educate leaders from a variety of backgrounds with whom communities will identify.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Sullivan Leadership Award must be residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington or Wyoming who are applying for first-time freshman admission to Seattle University for fall quarter 2014.
